The Secret and Wonders of Borobudur Temple



Borobodur temple is the largest Buddhist monument in the world. Borobodur temple is located in the village of Borobudur, Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. The location of the temple is approximately 100 km southwest of Semarang and 40 km northwest of Yogyakarta. 


Borobudur temple was built in the time of King  Samaratungga of Wangsa dynasty in 824. It means that Borobudur was built 300 years before Angkor Wat in Cambodia and 400 years before the great cathedrals of Europe. Borobudur has an area of ​​123x123 m² with 504 Buddha statues, stupas overlay 72 and the first stupa. This temple has a form of architecture that reflects the influence of the Indian Gupta.


Borobudur Temple building area is 15,129 m², composed of 55,000 m³ of stone, consists of 2 million pieces of rocks. The average stone size of 25 x 10 x 15 cm. Stone cut overall length of 500 km with a total weight of 1.3 million tons of rock. The walls of the Borobudur Temple is surrounded by pictures or reliefs which is a series of stories that are arranged in a 1460 panel. The length of each panel 2 meters. So if the circuit relief is stretched then more or less long relief totaled 3 km. The temple has 10 levels, where the rate of 1-6 square, while the rate of 7-10 round. Arca found throughout the temple building amounted to 504 units. Meanwhile, the high temple of the ground until the end of the main stupa was 42 meters, 34.5 meters but now lives after being struck by lightning. Topmost level of the 10 are the great stupa diameter of 9.90 m, with a height of 7 m. This temple was built without using cement. Borobudur temple is decorated with carvings on the stone reliefs representing an overview of the life of Buddha. Archaeologists claim that the Borobudur temple has 1,460 series of reliefs along the walls and platforms. Relief is the most complete and largest in the world so that the value of his art is unmatched. Readings relief stories are always the starting and end on the east side of the gate at every level. The story begins from the left and ended up on the right gate.


This monument is a holy place and the Buddhist pilgrimage.
Ten levels of the temple symbolize the three divisions of the Buddhist cosmic system. When you start the journey they pass through the temple grounds to get to the top, they will pass through three levels of cosmology Buddhist and essentially a "clone" of the universe according to Buddhist teachings consists of three major parts, namely: (1) Kamadhatu or the world of desire; (2) Rupadhatu or shaped the world; and (3) Arupadhatu or formless world.

 
The entire monument itself resembles a giant stupa, but seen from above form a mandala. Great Stupa at the top of the temple is located 40 meters above the ground. The main dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statue inside perforated stupa.

After going through a rigorous selection at the end of 1991 Borobudur designated as World Heritage by UNESCO.
